Yas Links hosts fourth Rolex Series event of the year
ABU DHABI: Masters Champion Rory McIlroy will headline the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship as the DP World Tour Play-Offs tee off at Yas Links from 6-9 November 2025.
The Northern Irishman, a five-time Major winner, has already secured his place in the field following a landmark season that included a thrilling win at Augusta National.
Now leading the Race to Dubai standings, McIlroy’s return to the UAE marks the start of the DP World Tour’s end-of-season finale. With a stellar record at Yas Links and three consecutive Race to Dubai titles behind him, the 35-year-old is eyeing a historic fourth in a row.
McIlroy etched his name in history earlier this year by becoming the first European golfer to complete a career grand slam. His victory at the Masters added to his previous Major wins: the 2011 U.S. Open, the US PGA Championship in 2012 and 2014, and The Open Championship in 2014.
Championship format
The Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, staged by Abu Dhabi Sports Council in partnership with the DP World Tour, is the first of two season-closing events. The top 70 available players in the Race to Dubai standings after the Back 9 events will compete in Abu Dhabi for a chance to qualify for the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai the following week.
Celebrating its 20th edition in 2025, the Championship returns to Yas Links for the fourth consecutive season. England’s Paul Waring clinched his maiden Rolex Series title there in 2024, adding to the tournament’s growing prestige.
Tickets for the event are now on sale, with general admission free on 6 and 7 November. For the final two days, prices start from just Dh50, offering fans an accessible way to witness world-class golf action. A 50 per cent discount is available during the early bird access window.
Premium options
Spectators can upgrade their viewing experience with a selection of premium options. One of the most sought-after is “Bar on Nine,” the Ticket+ experience that proved popular in 2024. A limited number of early bird tickets are available for just Dh210, which includes a Dh100 voucher for food and beverages.
For fans seeking luxury hospitality, the Championship Chalet on the 18th green provides a five-star experience with unmatched views of the final hole. Nestled in a prime location, this exclusive option includes access to an air-conditioned lounge and a shaded balcony, with packages starting from Dh1,680.
Race to Dubai stakes
The 2025 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship serves as a crucial stage in the Race to Dubai, narrowing the field from the top 70 to the top 50 players for the final showdown in Dubai. With the Rolex Series status adding valuable points, the event plays a pivotal role in shaping the overall standings.
McIlroy’s appearance further raises the stakes, as he looks to extend his dominance and secure a seventh Race to Dubai crown. His fourth-place finish earlier this season at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic helped consolidate his position at the top, and his consistency across the season makes him a firm favourite heading into the final stretch.
UAE Golfing legacy
Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, praised the Championship’s significance: “Abu Dhabi has firmly established itself as a world-class golfing destination by hosting internationally recognised tournaments that attract elite players from around the globe. He added that the Championship continues to drive sports tourism and deliver tangible economic benefits for the region. “Hosting global sporting events reflects Abu Dhabi Sports Council’s commitment to enhancing both the local and international sports landscape,” he said.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, McIlroy shared his excitement about returning to the UAE:
“I love ending the season in the Middle East and I’m excited to return to Abu Dhabi again for the first of two big events later this year. I’ve started the year well and I’ve got a good record at Yas Links, so hopefully I can continue doing what I’m doing and give myself a chance of finishing the season strongly and having a shot of getting another Race to Dubai under my belt.”
